This type of installation was in wide use when milk churns were used to collect the milk from farms, milking straight into the churn saved tipping milk from the bucket into the churn, but with the introduction of bulk milk tanks, and collection by tankers, this system proved to have no advantages over a bucket milking unit, and was replaced by pipeline systems, to get the milk from the cow straight into the tank.
